Testbed Configuration

Now that we have checked out the specifications of the new processors it is time to test them in practical experiments. Today we are going to compare new Athlon X2 CPUs against the old solutions of the same name as well as against their direct competitors from the Intel Pentium Dual Core family. As a result, we used the following hardware components to build our test platforms:

  • CPUs:
    • AMD Athlon X2 7750 (Socket AM2+, 2.7GHz, 2 x 512KB L2 + 2MB L3, Kuma);
    • AMD Athlon X2 7550 (Socket AM2+, 2.5GHz, 2 x 512KB L2 + 2MB L3, Kuma);
    • AMD Athlon X2 6000 (Socket AM2, 3.1GHz, 2 x 512KB L2, Brisbane);
    • AMD Athlon X2 5800 (Socket AM2, 3.0GHz, 2 x 512KB L2, Brisbane);
    • AMD Athlon X2 5600 (Socket AM2, 2.9GHz, 2 x 512KB L2, Brisbane);
    • AMD Athlon X2 5400 (Socket AM2, 2.8GHz, 2 x 512KB L2, Brisbane);
    • AMD Athlon X2 5200 (Socket AM2, 2.7GHz, 2 x 512KB L2, Brisbane);
    • Intel Pentium DC E5300 (LGA775, 2.6GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2MB L2, Wolfdale-2M);
    • Intel Pentium DC E5200 (LGA775, 2.5GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2MB L2, Wolfdale-2M);
    • Intel Pentium DC E2220 (LGA775, 2.4GHz, 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2, Allendale).
  • Mainboards:
    • ASUS P5Q Pro (LGA775, Intel P45, DDR2 SDRAM);
    • DFI LANPARTY UT 790FX-M2R (Socket AM2+, AMD 790FX).
  • Memory:  4GB DDR2-800 SDRAM with 4-4-4-12 timings (Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C4).
  • Graphics card: ATI RADEON HD 4870.
  • HDD: Western Digital WD1500AHFD.
  • OS: Microsoft Windows Vista x86.
