X-bit labs CeBIT 2005 Coverage: Day 3 (page 6)Category: Editorial by Anton Shilov [ 03/14/2005 | 06:00 AM ] AMD’s and Intel’s Dual-Core Processor Systems Pictured, Some Benchmark Results of Intel’s Dual-Core Pentium Extreme Edition RevealedBoth Intel and AMD are showcasing their dual-core processors at CeBIT 2005. Unfortunately, neither of them demonstrates the processors widely: there is one system in Intel’s booth that is built around dual-core Intel Pentium Extreme Edition chip that is projected to run at 3.20GHz and there is one personal computer from Alienware that runs AMD’s dual-core Athlon 64 microprocessor. Perhaps, both have more, but these two are more or less public. Both PCs come in rather untraditional form-factor that should reflect their positioning towards the so-called digital home.
Intel runs Cinebench 2003 benchmark on its dual-core processor-equipped system. According to the benchmark result, two processing engines with the Hyper-Threading technology enabled give 115% performance premium over a single-core central processing unit. AMD remains quiet about the clock-speeds of its dual-core desktop processor, but some sources within the industry revealed that the company’s server chips will run at 1.60GHz, 1.80GHz and 2.0GHz. Historically AMD’s desktop high-performance chips were faster compared to the company’s server and workstation processors. <%BANNER[banner_468x30]%>
