IDF Fall 2004: Day 2 (page 5)Category: Editorial [ 09/09/2004 | 10:16 AM ] Extended Battery LifeA lot of surveys indicate that people need more battery life. Technically it’s tough but Intel assured us that they were are working really hard on it. In fact, by 2010 the mainstream battery life of the notebooks out there should reach 8 hours, which should satisfy the average demand. To achieve this Intel is planning to introduce a number of changes, which should reduce the power consumption of such currently power-hungry components of every notebook as transistors and displays. Besides, they will also optimize power state management approaches and resort to more advanced technologies for battery designs. Today Intel announced their new battery life optimization program, which allows saving up to 3W of power. Here is what it is supposed to look like: As far as the innovations in the battery design and manufacturing are concerned, there are a few new initiatives, which appeared pretty promising already. Here they are: As you may have noticed, the shape of the rechargeable components inside the battery casing, the layer-composition of the battery as well as the chemical contents of the layers – all these things contribute a lot to increasing the battery performance and lifetime. Hopefully, it will not tell on the price of the battery as much as it tells on the performance :) . Among the latest and most impressive ready mobile solutions out there, Intel demonstrated a few really nice products:
