The second test is in fact a geometrical one as there’s lush dynamically generated vegetation in this scene, with complex shadows and lighting effects. The senior RADEON models start as confidently as in the previous test, but lose their advantage in higher resolutions. In 1600x1200 they are equal to their GeForce 6800 counterparts. This does not affect the overall performance score of the cards, by the way, because 3DMark05 uses the 1024x768 results to calculate it – this may seem already inadequate today.
The “eye candy” results differ from the first test: the GeForce 6800 Ultra can’t overtake the RADEON X850 XT and XT Platinum Edition, being only able to beat the RADEON X800 XL.
