Performance in Strategies
Like in most other games, the GeForce GTX 580 doesn’t outperform the Radeon HD 5970. However, Nvidia’s solutions deliver higher bottom speeds in this test, and the new card has no rivals in this respect, especially at high resolutions. Occasional slowdowns are not as crucial in strategies as in first-person shooters, so BattleForge seems to be playable on the Radeons. However, the GeForce GTX 580 is obviously preferable to the Radeon HD 5970 here.
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty
The GeForce GTX 580 raises the bottom speed to 28 fps at 2560x1600, becoming competitive to the Radeon HD 5970. The difference in average performance is only about 20% and can hardly be felt without benchmarking tools. It may matter for professional cybersportsmen but not for an ordinary StarCraft II gamer. The difference in the level of noise produced by the GeForce GTX 580 and Radeon HD 5970 is much more obvious.
