Far Cry 2
Nvidia’s new offer is as good as the Radeon HD 5970 at 1600x900 but falls behind at the higher resolutions in terms of average frame rate. The bottom speeds of the GeForce GTX 580 and Radeon HD 5970 are similar across all the standard resolutions, though. Far Cry 2 having modest system requirements, you can play the game even at 2560x1600 without any fear of slowdowns.
This game is tested without full-screen antialiasing but with tessellation turned on.
For all its 16 geometry-processing units and increased frequencies, the GeForce GTX 580 cannot maintain a playable bottom speed when we turn the tessellation option on, although the new card's average frame rate is as high as that of the Radeon HD 5970. Anyway, the GeForce GTX 580 sets a new standard of performance among premium-class single-GPU graphics cards.

We run this game with tessellation turned on.
The GeForce GTX 580 leaves the Radeon HD 5970 behind in this test! We did not expect the new card to be so fast, but it is 25 to 45% ahead of the GeForce GTX 480 here, depending on the resolution. This must be the effect of the increased number of ALUs clocked at a higher frequency and of the improved texture-mapping units which are now capable of processing FP16 textures at full speed.
