Far Cry

When this article was being prepared, mass media got the access to the version 1.2 patch for Far Cry, which gives a certain performance boost to GeForce 6800 Ultra graphics cards, but deprives the GeForce FX series of any possible optimizations. To offer you the complete picture, we post the results of both versions of the game (1.1 and 1.2):

Far Cry 1.1, MP_Dune

Far Cry is probably the most perfect first-person shooter of our days. It demands all that the graphics subsystem of the computer can cater and devours all the resources and asks for more.

The new graphics card families from ATI and NVIDIA are anyway excellent in this game, and it’s rather hard to name a winner. The RADEON 9800 XT/Pro family is good, too, and the RADEON 9800 XT is again closely following the GeForce 6800. The old GeForce FX architecture hardly meets the requirements of Far Cry.

Turning on the “eye candy” mode, we see certain changes in the ranks: the RADEON X800 XT steps up on the top position! The 12-pipeline RADEON X800 Pro doesn’t handle the load well anymore and loses to the GeForce 6800 Ultra as well as to the GeForce 6800 GT. The GeForce 6800 is again found incapable of working quickly with FSAA and AF enabled and only competes with the RADEON 9800 XT.
