Escape level

The Escape level has a more complex geometry than Danger, so the gap between the topmost models from ATI and NVIDIA is smaller than in the previous case. The game favors graphics cards from NVIDIA and the GeForce 6800 looks preferable even to the RADEON X800 Pro, although has worse formal characteristics. The cards of the RADEON 9800 family are the leaders among the previous generation.

The situation changes in the predictable direction in the “eye candy” mode. The RADEON X800 XT bears the higher load easily, and the RADEON X800 Pro can even catch up with the GeForce 6800 GT. The GeForce 6800 once again gives up the fight with the RADEON X800 family. The GeForce FX graphics cards also lose their advantage here.

FPS, Quick Summary

You’ve caught the overall picture: the new graphics processors from NVIDIA and ATI suit ideally for running next-generation computer games. However, we should acknowledge that ATI’s solutions often look preferable if complex shader-based special effects along with full-screen anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering are in use.

Well, it’s too early to give any advice concerning such upcoming games as Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Stalker: Shadows of Chernobyl – all is in the hands of the developers of the game. As we remember, NVIDIA has a nice reserve for the future in the form of support of vertex and pixel shaders version 3.0, but we are still to see if the industry makes any use of it.
