Performance in First-Person 3D Shooters
The RV630 chip has only one raster and two texture processors, which are roughly equivalent to 8 ordinary TMUs and 4 ROPs. Of course, this affects the performance of the Radeon HD 2600 XT negatively, especially when we enable full-screen antialiasing.
We can see that the Radeon HD 2600 XT cannot deliver comfortable performance in Battlefield 2142 even at 1280x1024, let alone higher resolutions, when we enable 4x FSAA. On the other hand, the ATI Radeon X1950 Pro and Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS do not offer an acceptable speed, either.
The large advantage in computing power over the GeForce 8600 GTS doesn’t save the AMD solution. It is also slower than its market rival GeForce 8600 GT in low resolutions.
