This mainboard looks good, easy to tweak, provides excellent performance at nominal mode and with CPU overclock. And it’s simple good platform, because it’s a flagship mainboard designed and manufactured by large and well-known company.
The mainboard has comfortable design, good features set and basic bundle. It has good overclocking power and typical performance. The mainboard has many pros, but we found one very bad thing: power consumption of GA-Z97X-Gaming 3 is too high.
MSI mainboards don’t seem to have improved much with the transition from Intel’s Z87 to Z97 chipset. Although they have actually got better in some aspects, there are some “buts” that prevent us from calling the tested model perfect
ASUS’s new mainboard looks improved with its updated BIOS and modern interfaces. But are all of those improvements really good? And what exactly is the difference between it and the older models? We’ll find the answers right now in this review
Asus A88XM-Plus and Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3H are similar to each other. They are similar by specs and price, made by first-tier manufacturers, based on AMD A88X chipset and have a micro-ATX form-factor appropriated to low-cost systems. But let’s take a look to their differences.
This model uses a full set of Intel Z87 features. Besides, it provides additional set of MSI brand technologies. Theoretically it looks good, but lets take a look on practical work. How will it operate during nominal mode and overclocking?
The board doesn’t looks like any other MicroATX mainboard. But in spite of non-typical interior Gryphon Z87 works as most ASUS products. It’s real ASUS mainboard with usual for this manufacturer set of features and peculiarities.
Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC motherboard is targeted for open testbeds and overclocking experiments. That is why it has a bunch of special and very interesting distinctive features. But this mainboard is not optimal for ordinary desktops and in this review we tell you why.

The motherboard is based on Intel Z87 but powered with a lot of additional controllers. Some features of Gigabyte G1.Sniper 5 are typical for high-end platforms and some are unique. The board has many advantages and a very few disadvantages.
Asus Z87-Deluxe is good and balanced model for powerful LGA 1150 system. It has additional SATA 6 Gb/s and USB 3.0 controllers, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth support dual Gigabit Ethernet, two CPU fan headers and two POST-codes indicators. However we had seen some problems with it.
This is a very well-made mainboard model with classic feature set. The functionality includes: additional USB 3.0 and SATA 6 Gbps ports, IEEE 1394 (FireWire) and Thunderbolt ports, two network adapters, wireless technologies, AMD CrossFire and Nvidia SLI, as well as a special connector for mSATA and mini-PCIe cards.
They feature absolutely new power scheme, layout and circuit board as well as a lot of software and hardware improvements. Moreover, instead the terrible Click BIOS II, contemporary MSI’s motherboards had received the brand new Click BIOS 4. We have a closer look at all of these features by reviewing mainstream Intel Z87-based motherboard by MSI.
This board is built on the new Intel Z87 chipset. It is a mainstream model: not two simple to suffer from lack of public interest to it, yet not too complex to scare potential users away by excessive onboard technologies and high price.
This is an entry-level mainboard, but not the most junior model in the family. It uses the features and functionality of the Intel Z87 chipset almost to the fullest, but has no numerous additional onboard controllers, thus staying reasonably priced. The new Gigabyte UEFI BIOS makes a terrific impression making this board stable and reliable in nominal mode and easy to work with during CPU overclocking.
This mainboard is fairly simple, but this is why it actually turned out relatively inexpensive. At the same time it features everything necessary for proper usage, which is its primary selling feature. As for the processors and chipsets comprising the new LGA1150 platform, the situation here is much more complicated.
The major but not the only distinguishing features of new Micro-Star gaming mainboards compared with the regular models is the replacement of the generic network controllers with Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2200, which allows assigning priorities with focus on gaming traffic, thus reducing the delays during online gaming.
The technical specifications of both these mainboard models based on Intel Z77 Express are almost identical, the prices are also very similar, so they seem like great candidates for side by side comparison. However, they turned out quite different from one another even when running in their nominal mode, not to mention the overclocked mode.
This mainboard occupies an intermediate position between the high-end and entry-level mainboards from Asus based on Intel Z77 Express chipset. It has richer functionality than the entry-level models, boasts more powerful voltage regulator, supports USB BIOS Flashback technology. At the same time, it is not as energy-efficient as the entry-level products.
The functionality and features of this mainboard could have been fit for a flagship board of the past, but today it is just enough to place this product in the very mainstream segment, making it the junior model from Asus on Intel Z77 Express chipset. And it is probably the first time that we see wireless support implemented in a far not the top mainboard model like that.
