Conclusion
I doubt that any of our readers will be surprised that Biostar mainboard discussed today receives our highly positive feedback. Biostar TH55XE is a well-designed mainboard with modern functionality. Its BIOS options allow fine-tuning its performance to your taste. I did not have any problems running this mainboard in the nominal as well as overclocked mode. A number of its features are typical of higher-class products, yet Biostar TH55XE is rather affordable. It gets a very high, even though not excellent, mark from me.
Although the board is free from serious defects, it does possess minor shortcomings and dubious engineering solutions which I noted throughout the review, such as the problematic placement of the expansion slots, the unhandy buttons and Rapid Debug indicators, and the insufficient number of USB ports on the back panel. The BIOS Setup has too many subsections which often contain only one or two parameters. Some related BIOS options are distributed between multiple subsections. The voltage adjustment increment is too big for a modern mainboard. Again, these are all but minor shortcomings which just slightly mar the overall positive impression.
Biostar mainboards have acquired reputation of products for thrifty overclockers and for a good reason. They are overclocker-friendly and offer advanced features you can see in other mainboards but at a more affordable price. Biostar TH55XE model is a good example of that. It is also going to be interesting for an inexperienced overclocker as you can easily speed it up using predefined profiles. And it will be a good choice for an ordinary user who is not into overclocking as its functionality is just as good as that of other mainboards while the slightly pre-overclocked frequencies ensure a small advantage in performance (you can easily disable this factory overclocking if you want, though). I have no doubt you won’t be disappointed if you choose Biostar TH55XE.
In conclusion we would like to award Biostar TH55XE our Recommended Buy title:
