It has been for a long time now that EVGA brand is associated not only with graphics accelerators, although they still make a big share of company’s sales, like they always have. EVGA is already offering monitors, computer accessories of all kinds, and of course, mainboards. North American market still remains the company’s priority, however, you can easily find EVGA solutions in Europe as well. We continue talking about mainboards from different manufacturers based on Intel P55 Express chipset. EVGA Company offers an entire series of solutions like that that differ in size, functionality, and certainly price, which can be anywhere between $120 and $350. Without going into any extremes, we decided not to go for the most expensive or the cheapest solution in the lineup and purchased an EVGA P55 FTW priced at $230. This is what our today’s review is going to be about.
Package and Accessories
Extremely thoroughly made packaging is a distinguishing feature of all EVGA mainboards. Even the relatively thin mainboard box that we got this time is additionally sealed in clear plastic.
You can see a photo of the mainboard inside on the back of the box alongside with the brief list of its technical specifications, items included among bundled accessories as well as warranty info.
All accessories inside the box are carefully sealed in individual antistatic bags:
- Four SATA cabled with metal connector locks on one side;
- Two power adapters for four SATA devices;
- Additional bracket with two USB ports and one IEEE1394 (FireWire);
- SLI bridge;
- I/O Shield for the mainboard back panel;
- Colorful poster with brief assembly instructions (Visual Installation Guide);
- Printed mainboard manual;
- CD disk with software and drivers;
- EVGA ECP (EVGA Control Panel) and a set of cables for it.
EVGA ECP (EVGA Control Panel) is a small external panel that makes it a little easier to work with the board in case you use it as an open testbed. It duplicates certain elements of the board itself: Power On, Reset and Clear CMOS buttons, jumpers for disabling the idling PCI Express slots, POST code indicator. Only the three blue buttons on the panel are in fact missing on the actual board: two of them allow increasing the processor core voltage (Vcore Voltage) by 0.1 V, and the third one increases the voltage of the North Bridge part integrated into the CPU by the same exact value (VTT Voltage).
