Above the keyboard there is a Power On button, a button to launch Dell MediaDirect (a kind of Windows Media Center, this multimedia program was developed by CyberLink especially for Dell’s notebooks), and the first group of status indicators that includes (from left to right):

  • Num Lock
  • Caps Lock
  • Scroll Lock
  • Wireless network indicator
  • Bluetooth indicator (alight when the Bluetooth interface is enabled)

The second group of indicators is located on the right display hinge. It is visible irrespective of the position of the lid. This group includes:

  • Power indicator
  • HDD activity indicator
  • Battery charge indicator

The notebook’s left side is loaded with the following components (from left to right):

  • Kensington lock
  • Two USB 2.0 ports
  • Optical drive with an activity indicator, an eject button, and an emergency ejection hole

The right panel of the Precision M90 offers the following:

  • Smart card slot
  • 26-pin ExpressCard/54 connector

  • 4-pin FireWire port labeled “DV”, meaning that it can be used for high-end digital video equipment
  • 5-in-1 card-reader (supports Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital, xD-Picture Card)
  • Headphones output
  • Microphone input

The rear panel is all speckled with various connectors (from left to right):

  • TV output (S-Video)
  • LAN port (RJ-45)
  • Modem port (RJ-11)
  • Four USB 2.0 ports
  • DVI port
  • 15-pin D-Sub port to connect an external monitor
  • Power connector
