Performance in FC-Test
In conclusion we would like to discuss the performance of our testing participants in FC-Test benchmark:

It is not at all surprising that the models with 8MB buffer take the lead in writing: larger buffer ensures an advantage of 17% for them. It is interesting that the previous generation didn’t turn into outsiders in this test. Remembering about some problems the 180GB model had with writes in Intel IOMeter tests, we do not get surprised when we see it losing to the 120GB model. However, it has no problems outperforming HDDs with smaller buffer. Anyway, large buffer is most important for writing. And in IBM’s implementation it is equally efficient for writing small files as well as large ones, which we didn’t see by other HDD manufacturers. It is probably the enhanced brand name algorithms that work this way. :)
