Futuremark 3DMark05

The SLI configuration with two GeForce 6800 Ultra stops less than 150 points short of the 10.000 mark, while the more advanced GeForce 7800 GTX card easily overcome it in the SLI mode, scoring 11.458 points. The single GeForce 7800 GTX also manages to get more than 7,000 points, but that’s the last of NVIDIA’s triumphs. The single GeForce 6800 Ultra is slower than the RADEON X850 XT Platinum Edition and the GeForce 6800 GT can’t compete with the RADEON X800 XL. Only the GeForce 6600 GT with its high frequencies (500/1000MHz) beats the sluggish RADEON X700 PRO that has a lot of memory but works at low clock rates. Unlike the previous version of the benchmark, 3DMark05 seems to favor solutions from ATI Technologies.

The two senior SLI configurations and the GeForce 7800 GTX take the top places in this shooter-like test, but ATI RADEON X850/X800 are supreme in the lower echelons.

Our turning on full-screen antialiasing and anisotropic filtering changes the situation: the GeForce 6 cards have better results than the RADEON X850/X800 in low resolutions. As you remember, graphics cards with only 128MB of onboard memory can do full-screen antialiasing in resolutions above 1024x768 in 3DMark05.
