Performance in Third-Person 3D Shooters

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition

The Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT is only ahead of the ATI Radeon HD 3870 at 1280x1024. At the higher resolutions they deliver the same performance, which is, however, insufficient for comfortable play.

Tomb Raider: Legend

The only resolution at which the GeForce 9600 GT is unable to keep the frame rate at a comfortable level is 1920x1200 pixels, but this card is not actually meant for playing at such high display modes. The ATI Radeon HD 3870 is far inferior to the new card in terms of average frame rate but it doesn’t affect the gamer’s experience: the average speed of the AMD card is high enough for this game genre while the minimum speed is about as high as that of the Nvidia card.
