Far Cry HDR

High dynamic range lighting in Far Cry can place almost any graphics card on the knees. It is quite satisfactory to see that the novelty is constantly faster than its predecessor – GeForce 7900 GS – across all resolutions. Nevertheless, the only resolution suitable for practical use by gamers is 1280x1024, as already in 1600x1200 the framerate drops to around 40fps, which is too low for first person shooter games. As we can see from the graphs above, difference between performance in “Pier” and “Research” levels is negligible.

It is interesting to note that 8 ROPs of the GeForce 8600 GTS can offer performance comparable with 16 ROPs of the GeForce 7 and 12 of the Radeon X1950 Pro.
