1. Couldn't ask more of a product review. If given more, I would probably skip over it. Your review has caused me to rethink my goals; i.e.
I have approximately 25,000 B/W negatives ofa museum collection that I wanted to correlate with entries of descriptive data in a Clarisworks database by inserting a thumbnail photo with each entry.
Now I know that I would be buying an elephant gun to shoot a gnat.
Many thanks.

2. Thanks for such a comprehensive, in-depth review of the Epson Perfection 4870 Photo scanner. You've answered absolutely everything I wanted to know about this scanner before making the purchase, and then a lot more I didn't know to ask.

3. You did not discuss the software that is provided on the 4870 Pro. Does that software correct the deficiencies of Digital ICE in scanning B/W negatives?

Digital Ice does not work with Black and White pictures. SilverFast SE that comes with the scanner has SRD-Smart Removal of Defects, that can work in Semi-Automatic fashion with any picture.

5. What is the maximum size of a print made out of a 4x5 transparency (color negative) without extrapolating?
