so every time a new FX chip comes out they stop selling it and replace it with a chip thats exactly the same? i guess that kinda makes sense

Yes.

Well kind of saddened its taken longer than expected to come with 90nm chips, but I suppose that's the way of it. The A64's are good chips.

And Intel's 925XE and 3.73 EE are nowhere to be seen and unlikely to get here anytime soon, so that's certainly one MORE plug for AMD, as if AMD needed more plugs.

Yeah A64's are THAT good.

As I wrote at other sites (in short form):

AMD usually didn't fill top speed bins with CPUs coming out of a new process or having a new design. Such CPUs often started as mobile CPUs at lower clock speeds, coming to desktop later.

Examples: Palomino and Thoroughbred

And maybe the yield of 2.6 GHz dies at the not so mature 90nm node could be lower than at the grown and tweaked 130nm node.

Seems no one has any word on availability to market...

The specs for the Athlon 64 4000+ are wrong. The 4000+ will have 2.6 GHz clock speed and 512K L2 cache. AMD already said that a 1MB L2 cache will be reserved for FX processors. AMD said that all future Athlon 64 processors excluding FX will come w/ 512K L2 cache.
