Very good article, never knew it was that good - I had been avoiding that chip as the Athlon64 2800+ was about the same price but better performing. Just a shame you can't get NF3 250 Shuttles/barebones yet.

Great eye opener for me. Super article.
Would be nice to see what how an OC'd Stock AMD64 3000+ compares using it's stock cooling. Looking at newegg.com the prices of the mb, Sempron 3100, and Thermaltake Silentboost = $282. The Stock AMD64 3000+ plus a slightly cheaper but still great mb, the DFI "LANPARTY UT nF3 250Gb" = $298. Not much of a difference, but I'm sure the Silentboost is better than the stock AMD HSF on the AMD64 3000+. Also according to the messageboards over at Overclockers.com, the AMD64 3000+ has a 10multiplier instead of a 9 that the Sempron and AMD64 2800+ has... or something like that. All this multiplying and dividing is a little confusing to me since I haven't messed with these systems any.

It would be even nicer to see what a mobile Sempron could do in the mainboard, assuming it was supported by the BIOS, eg. the full range of low power/heat (9W at idle!) operation to a screaming overclocker.

Nice, just picked one up last night from NewEgg for $100 and a Refurb K8T NEO-FIS2R for $45. Cant wait to get it and fire her up ;)
I was debating the Sempron vs. A64-2800 for a while, but for $37 more, why bother? When 64-bit OS actually arrives, I will then upgrade to a capable processor.
Just curious what they do to disable 64-bit? Is it a bridge setting, or a redesigned core? If it is a bridge setting, I wonder if a Pin mod would work to enable it...Hmmm.

The article is really an eye opener, i wouldn't think,that the "duron2" could bring that much performance for a small price....amazing!
I have a DFI lanparty nf2 u w/ a 2500+ barty, and i'm seriosly thinking about switching to S 3100+ coupled by an MSI K8N Neo platinum....that would be a dream come true.... :)

Got it running on the Asus K8N. Rock stable at 2.4Ghz! Been running Prime95 on it for over 48 hours without a hickup.
Seems to be stable at 2.5 also, but at 2.6 it starts choking.

what motherboard did you use for this test?
I having a hard time finding a right motherboard for the sempron chip.
Plus you mention that the chip would make made in 90nm core. Should I buy now when it is $100 or wait until the 90 nm core come out?

Is there any comparison between AMD Sempron and Intel P4? I only have found Sempron Vs Celeron D, but we are not intrested on that comparison. We have tested them and Sempron is equal or better than P4, so we would like to see what other comparisons have resulted in.
