Im fairly new to this level of overclocking....

Does anyone know if using DDR500 RAM would allow you to increase core clock more of the 3100+ on the board they suggested in the article??

They used DDR400 and with the locked multiplier of the chip could only reach 2.4Ghz?

With DDR500 does that mean you could use the 1/13 chip divisor ratio and push the 3100+ even further with more cooling?
Im seriously interested in getting this processor now.

Excellent overclocker, but is it going to last/hold together as a cpu or even complete system when the Sempron 3100+'s operating temp is indicated on the coding for the cpu @ 70* C per the white papers ? How is that going to effect other components.

Could anyone please HELP ME !! I read this article, was impressed (duh) and when ahead and bought myself a 3100+ and a Chaintech VNF3-250 mobo. I moved my previous Transcend DDR400 PC3200 2x256 RAM from my old Nforce2 with 2600+ Barton (@2256). However, I'm NOT GETTING PERFORMANCE out of the Sempron setup. Overclocking was a breeze - got it to 9x280 = 2520, and 8x300=2400 and temperatures are ok, but I can't seem to get better 3d-scores (3dmark03&05) than on my previous setup - the results showing an inferior CPU score. What I also get is a kind of lockup at the start of the benchmark, almost like a system hanging, but then after 3-4 seconds the system is back to normal and this may happen once or twice more during the benchmark. SiSandra 2004 shows high CPU scores, but the RAM scores seem kinda low. I'm stumped !! Running default RAM timings on 1T setting - think this is required when running asynchronous ram setting (133/200). Any ideas ?

My question then (sorry): is this entirely a RAM issue, i.e. would 512 of DDR500 solve my performance problem ?

PS: I'm using latest Chaintech VNF3-250 bios.

All the Sempron3100+ CPUs I've looked at are 333FSB, but to get the performance you claim I would need to get up to 540mhz! Where can I find a 400FSB 3100+ then?

Hello... I noticed that the Epox board presented here (the article about o/c-ing the Sempron 3100+) differs a bit from the one presented on the Epox's web site. The EP-8KDA3+ shown here hav an active chipset cooler and heatsinks on the transitors from the the power supply, and the one shown on the manufacturer's website hasn't any (there's also a connector - looks like a fac connctor- missing from what i can tell, near the ATX power supply conector). How.. the board u used in this test was especilay sent by Epox or it's off the shelf?

Because i think those heatsinks on the transotors and the active cooling on the chipset can make a diffrence when overclocking...

I recently downloaded a driver update from AMD that unlocked my paris core 3100 and it now runs at 2004 mhz I didnt realize until I installed it that it was intended for the 64 bit processer but It works great verified with Sandra. 9.0.1.429 4.53 mgbs. I am sorry but can't find the web site again. best of luck I have a asus k8vse deluxe board perhaps this will help. Shalom Jim.

Well, here I am responding a couple months after the article. I purchased the Sempron 3100+ and an ECS K8 HT1600 MoBo for $89 USD at Frys. Hell, the 1G 3200 DDR cost me as much. Anyway, I got it home and read this article. With confidence, I have my system running a bit over 2 gigs without the temperature seeing anything more than 48 c. Great deal!! BTW- the CPU temp goes down very fast with the case open. The designers of this cheap Chinese case have no clue to thermal dynamics.

If I had deep pockets I certainly would not waste my time overclocking. However, being the poor and humble man I am, I see this as the best value ever. Eat your heart out Intel!
