More cache does not matter very much for the Athlon architecture, for example the Tbread vs Barton, the integrated memory controller have nothing to do with this.

But keep in mind that the 3800+ does not use the same core of the 4000+ (i think).

The MCT has a secondary effect here - it lowers the cost for a L2 miss, which in turn lowers the positive effect of a L2 hit somewhat.

Exactly, the Athlon/A64/Pentium III and Pentium-M all, don't benefit that much from increased cache as P4. (Recall K7 line is a improved K8 line with AMD64 capability and some other major improvements, while the Pentium-M is basically a descendent of the Pentium III).

I am curious as to who would spend $$$ on an FX or an EE CPU.

What about the 64 bit technology?
Won't it give the AMD:s a 20% performance gain in the future?

The future is here! Well... Exept in any of the benchmarks.

I find it quiet surprising that only a 32 bit OS and benchmark programs are used. I've got myself an AMD Athlon64 3500+ and this baby outperformes any Pentium4 HT systems I have been able to find (Up to dual 3GHz HT).
The comparison I have made is by compiling large packages on Gentoo Linux and setting the number of parallel processes to the number of CPUs (HT counting as 2)+1. The Athlon64 came out on top _every_ time.
