Thats great news for all of us that have been waiting on the SLI future-proof upgrade.... but what now? Buy a 6600gt 128mb card for it? 128mb isn't quite future proof. Nvidia wouldent be so dull as to release SLI chipset with only "temporary" ati high end solutions. (temporary=waste of money)

SLI is great but what now? If it came out today its still not the viable option with no cards to plug in worth my money.

For today, I don't think SLI is even worth it. Two cards, spending twice as much DOES NOT give you the performance that your spending.

If they give you 80% improvement for all games, then yes, its worth the price. But in reality, that's not the case.

I'd rather a single high-end card or a pair of non-SLI video cards. I've seen a dual PCI-Express Graphics mobo handle a Nvidia card and ATI card without issue. You can even switch between the two when you play games! HL2 on ATI and Doom III on Nvidia. Best of both worlds!

And heck...4 displays as well!

Eh, the only reason I'd consider SLI is as an upgrade path... get a 6800GT now, and when NV50 comes out, get a 2nd GT for like $200 and have NV50 performance.
