When searching for a drive, or evaluating my current ones, I always give more priority to read performance than write.
If you've got a decent amount of memory, moderate writes happen many seconds after you 'save' the file. Effectively, the write performance doesn't matter much for interactive use. But reads have to happen immediately, for your work to continue.
So I'm pretty happy with my two recently bought seagate SATA 200Gb drives, which perform well in this article. My main drive is a 73Gb WD Raptor - naturally, this is in a different league with 10k rpm rotation speed.
