only playback of BD discs too bad no burning of data on them :((

Over 6 years after DVD has been released and all we see is a tripling of capacity. As for the planned 54GB discs, its pretty obvious that they're going to be double-sided!

What we really should be told is how much better the video quality will be on blue ray compared to what we're used to. I've always thought that DVD was pretty poor (laser disc was and still is sooo much better....).

Are we to expect a more effective compression method than MP2? I hope so. But even without better lossy video compression, I'd at least expect a doubling in frame rate and resolution to that of DVD.

If blue-ray films use a method as effective as DiVx using a 27GB disc then I guess we're in for something to look forward to. Why don't the blue-ray consortium/hollywood provide a short video to download? It could be used as a demo for what we "eager consumers" can expect. Why haven't they done this already?
