1. it only costs $80!!!!!! holy crap

2. Great article thanks.
AMD K8 gets another set of awesome price/performance ratio CPUs. [Posted by: Cow187 | Date: 03/04/05]
3. Nice review. Finally Semprons are getting better. For socket A they were a peace of sh... Anyways AMD should REALLY change their rating system, just look at it - it's horrible. I think it would be nice to compare all 3000+ AMD cpus plus Intel pentium and celeron at 3 ghz. (the PR system was ment to compare to Intel ghz, right?)

5. Awesome article! Wow... gotta give AMD props again for such awesome budget CPUs!! :)

6. Should cost $60.

7. Now...Where's the Socket 939 one? :)

8. I liked this review: seems to consider almost everything. We'd like to see a milder overclock for this Sempron as it is not known where the one tried (2.5GHz) will land in the long run. If one pays a lot for the mainboard, case and coolers etc (to enable overclocking) you reach a price comparable to a faster processor's.

Not true. The DFI nForce3 250Gb board costs about $10 more than the equivilent MSI 250Gb. I just built a similar setup to the review using all cheap parts, a Sempron 2800+ with standard stock heatsink/fan for the CPU and no extra cooling for the DFI board. Also used the cheapest stick of 512Mb RAM I could find. The 50% overclock seemed pretty easy and the CPU runs at about 42c, under stress it reaches 55c. So far its stable up to 2.46G with (up from 1.6G) and the RAM is running at about DDR500 CAS2.5. Thats probably its limit but I haven't tried uping the voltage yet, I am guessing my RAM is a limiting factor. Although there are many memory ratios, it seems only 2 memory settings actually work, DDR400 and 333. This must be a limitation set in the Sempron. But hey, the whole idea of overclocking is to take budget parts and push them to the limit! And this is about the easiest, cheapest and extreme overclocking setup since the Celeron 300A. 9. Would like to see a follow up with the Sempron 3000 to see where it overclocks to since it is only $10 more.

10. what's the core name of the amd sempron 2600+ with 90nm technology? because the article have 2 core names: paris and palermo.
[Posted by: F3 | Date: 03/06/05]
Is Palermo, that is based in Paris core ... Ex: older Sempron 3100+ Socket 754
[Posted by: rodkickboxer | Date: 03/06/05]
Its a Paris core. At least that is what mine is according to CPU-Z
[Posted by: chainsaw_sculptor | Date: 03/25/05]
Oops! I see in the article it says CPU-Z identifies the core incorrectly. So yeh it would be the Palermo core.

11. I doesnt have cool n quiet not a problem, but the 3100+ have it or not? Anyone know this?
[Posted by: kaz | Date: 03/07/05]
Thanks Gavric. But a more difficult question? Only the 3100+ .13 version or the 0.09 also have the cool n quiet? [Posted by: kaz | Date: 03/07/05]
I treid the Sempron 3100+ on 0.13micron core. It does support Cool'n'Quiet. Unfortunately, I didn't have the 90nm processor at my disposal then.
[Posted by: Gavric | Date: 03/07/05]
I am sooo confused. I keep seeing conflicting comments concerning the various Sempron flavors and Cool'n'Quiet support. i emailed AMD, and their tech support response said that all Socket 754 Semprons support Cool'n'Quiet. But I read here and elsewhere that some (such as the 2600+ and 2800+) don't. Others have said that none of the Palermo core Semprons support Cool'n'Quiet--only the older 3100+ supports it.I don't know whom to believe anymore. [Posted by: lisch | Date: 04/21/05]
12. The most stupid idea to do was to dismiss C'n'Q for low-cost models. It WAS one of the major reasonings i had prepared for tomorows meeting about buying som 150 PC's for our new lab. Gues we will wait for cely's with EM64T. ;(
[Posted by: mino | Date: 03/09/05]
I think the same, bu dont forget that they already are low powered due to 0.09.I doubt that any EMT64 (Celeron or P4) will bet that even with power saving features. [Posted by: kaz | Date: 03/10/05]
13. Sweet, I'm dumping the OC 3100+ for this cheaper, cooler CPU, Id be getting the same thing anyways, so I dont see why not.

14. I've just built this rig mentioned in the article DFI 250Gb (except using cheap DDR400 RAM) and it works great. Overclocked a Sempron 2800+ (1.6G) 50% to 2.4G. No special cooling, no high voltages and no problems.

15. Thanks for this excellent article!
What CPU would you recommend for best oc-results? 1. 2600 Sempron 128kb 0,09 2. 2600 Sempron 256kb 0,09 3. 2800 Sempron 128kb 0,09 4. 2800 Sempron 256kb 0,09 5. 3100 Sempron 256kb 0,09 Would be great to have a desicion from you!!! best regards, Roy [Posted by: roy | Date: 04/02/05]
I think your table is wrong:1. 2600 Sempron 128kb 0,09 OK 2. 2600 Sempron 256kb 0,09 XX 3. 2800 Sempron 128kb 0,09 XX 4. 2800 Sempron 256kb 0,09 OK 5. 3100 Sempron 256kb 0,09 OK -- AND -- 6. 3000 Sempron 128kb 0,09 As more you go up more changes you have to overclock, since lower speed processors will require higher FSB speeds limiting the overclocking potencial. 16. I Have been using AMD Xp 2000
give me the best utilisation techniques of this product [Posted by: shyam | Date: 04/06/05]
17. i have a sempron 2600+ 1.6 128kb cache with palermo core ..and i have put it up to 2.4 thats all it will go stable ..but i thinks it's a great overclock för a sempron =)!!( and when i did overclock i used multiplier on the memory just drive with standard pc3200 mem

20. I just bought AMD sempron 2600 and an ECS KT600-A. On the bios i already put clock rate to 131. Is it ok to adjust on the board the CPU frequency 133 Mhz or up to 200Mhz? The default rite now is 100 Mhz... Plz help me...thx...
[Posted by: pandoy2005 | Date: 06/09/05]
I've got one Sempron 2800+, I can only overclock its HTT to 291MHZ.And that the furtherest it could go. The stable working speed for this CPU may be arould 275HTT, with a total CPU speed at 2.200 MHZ.
[Posted by: smug | Date: 07/09/05]
You need to set j8&j9 to 133 mhz... that is the best you can do with a 2600 sempron... The chip actually runs at 1600mhz
