via really needs to get a southbridge with native SATA support, the floppy drivers with XP is BS.

I had so many problems with my Asus A8V Deluxe Rev2 [K8T800Pro] that I'll never use a VIA chipset again, the MSI K8N Neo 2 [nFORCE3 Ultra] I replaced it with has been flawless & a better performer

I always used VIA from KT133a to KT400 without problems
KT600 had stability problems & bad performance so that's when I first switched over to Nvidia

In other words it's been years since VIA made a reliable chipset, It's just as important to buy a Nvidia chipset for your AMD platform as it is to buy a high-end Intel chipset for your Intel platform

I personaly have no problems with my Asus A8V rev1.xx, PCI/AGP lock works and no stability isues, and overclocks great.

However, based on this review of the A8V-E, I would say simply for the reason of lack of 1T command setting, I would never buy this board. If it only had the memory setting for 1T, then I'm sure it would be a great board.

What was Asus thinking?

Maybe this is only a pre release based board.

The all problem is that mobo maker don’t dedicate too much time for uli, sis and via boards, and not only that they also use worst quality components on these boards.
I doubt that intel and nvidia chipsets looked so good (stability, quality, performance) if mobo makers spend the same efforts/time on their products as they do with these.

I think i will go for the uli chip because it offers AGP and PCIe:

"Now we are moving to a single-chip for PCI Express (PCIe) on the K8 platform, the M1697. In addition, our M1695 and M1567 chips can be used together to support both PCIe and AGP. I think we are the only company to offer this kind of solution."

On page 3 of the review it states that the ASUS A8V-E Deluxe only has an integrated 10/100 NIC. This is not true. It actually has a Gigabit solution from Marvel.

Also this board has not only just reached the market, unless you have very slow distribution channels in your country. The ASUS A8V-E Deluxe has been available since late December from retail outlets (at least here in Australia). In fact I made the mistake of purchasing one based on priliminary manufacturing sample reviews.

Also the 1003 Bios apears to be much more stable than the 1004 revision. However this is whilst running x64bit WinXP and using a 6600GT. The PCI-E port is reduced to x8 lanes using this bios which fixes massive stability problems with the mainboard and 6600gt cards out of the box.

You so dont need SATA drivers for a winxp install. Get off your lazy ass and integrate SP1 or better yet SP2 into a new install CD. Voila, no need for external SATA drivers.

i didn't have any stability issues with Via chipset since KT600 two years ago. if someone has a problem with a board, then it's always the chipsets fault. that's not true, there are also other factors like board manufactor, bios, bios setting and the assembly. lots of noobs, and if you didn't make more than 20 high end computers then i consider you a noob, just don't have enough expirience in making a stable computer. sometimes it just takes more than putting everything together. the last compability issue i remember me was on a nforce4 board but i don't blame the chipset because it was the bios' fault. the A8V deluxe v2 has been a very stable board for me. used at least 25 of those.
so you can't draw any conclusions based on one review on one motherboard done on one website. from what i know the Albatron KT890 is fully stable.
people need to move on and understand that Via doesn't make unstable chipsets. it's just that it's always used for cheap motherboards and those tend to be badly made. with the release of the athlon 64, Via chipsets were used on high end boards and nobody was complaining back then.

The fan noise for the 8000rpm thing is terrible... i don't think that's supposed to happen though. The fan seems to malfunction because it's so hot.

I put a boxfan next to it just to be safe.

One thing I noticed about A8V-E Deluxe: a pretty lousy onboard Wi-Fi. It works fine in an "ideal" environment, but does not see weak signals that my other Wi-Fi adapters can pick up (with the same antennas).
Overall impression... It's an "OK" board for an average home user like me. But I wouldn't buy it again.

I have a ASUS A8V Deluxe mainboard and it O clocks well. I dont know about the 2t mem setting that was used. But it is faster then my NF4 board! Turn the 2t off and see what you get for mem test and benches and then say WOW THAT IS FAST!
It made me. Try setting the ram to 2.5 3 3 8 or 3 3 3 8 for O clocking and you can go much higher on the FSB. TURN OF THE 2T IN THE BIOS!!! make ddr faster than ddr2 on Intel boards. Sisoft sandra I hit 6.2 GB mem band test. that is dam GOOD!

I am sending my av8 deluxe back to asus with a flakey nic rev 2
... there is a rev 3 , so obviously there were some problems that needed attention.
overall it is a great board, but there are driver problems, and now with the dead nic, I will certainly avoid amd and buy a intel next time, fer sure.

My a8v deluxe have problem about new sata2 harddisk. I connect sata cable at sata1 module (Black). But it not detect HD by Promise or Via chip controller. So I change connect cable to Sata raid1 module(Red). It detected my harddisk ( Hitachi htk160.....) but in bios no harddisk anymore.I reboot and wait for command press ctrl+f for make array and i have make raid o+1 array it functionally Then I install Winxp by bootable Cdrom and wait for press F6 then choose S then put Floppy disk Promise driver to drive A then press enter. And WindowXP sp2 have found harddisk and format until install program completely. I reboot and go to bios OK. It has no harddisk at master primary or slave primary. But My new computer can work stable now no restart and I go to my computer for look at drive C: capacity 160 gb. It all right. Now My harddisk become is ..0+1 raid.. not hitachi htk160. at device manager (harddisk)
