Nice review as always, but I'm slightly concerned at your decision to rename the controller--as you can see with the following link, its name is SiI 3124, and not Sil 3124:

This distinction comes in handy when it comes to finding drivers and other support materials for the device. ;)

See page 3 of article. The article says you are using WD740GD drives, but the photos show WD360 drives.
