1. Is it possible to know which sempron processors have cool n'quite? Based on these reviews all 3100+ are? And what about the others?
I know 2600+ isnt.
[Posted by: kaz | Date: 04/05/05]
Only Sempron with 1.8GHz core frequency supports Cool'n'Quiet technology. I.e. 3000+ and 3100+ has C'n'Q, but 2800+ and 2600+ has not.

2. To achive the overclocking you have show, i must have DDR600 memory or i can do it with 400Mhz DDR.
[Posted by: lazy | Date: 04/05/05]
Use of DDR600 SDRAM at overclocking is not highly required. Memory can work asynchronously with frequency which less than FSB. Therefore, you can use DDR400 SDRAM in overclocked system. Thus performance will drop not strongly.

3. Thanks! Very informative. Looks like its time to make an decision ;)

4. Another half assed backwards review from Xbit.

At least you haven't doctored the results TOO much....but enough that most people who have a clue about these things will notice.

Keep trying.

It seems Xbit Labs is the only one looking at these new overclocking gems. I built a system using the new Sempron 2800+ on a DFI board thanks to Xbit labs 2600+ review. And for a budget system it really rocks. Got to be the easiest 50% overclock ever!

6. Where Can I download CristalCPUID? A google search turns up nothing that I can read.

7. CristalCPUID?

Its CrystalCPUID

Not "i", but "y"!

8. I notice 'doesitmatter' has posted a fake email. It suprises me that someone who is so keen to criticise wont post a real email, as if he runs away after he makes unfounded comments

9. Gavric,

Since A64's are not memory limited can you see how high you can get the processor with an asynchronous bus and some DDR400 with 2-2-2-5 timings.

I've heard people are having better results upping the HTT but leaving the memory lower with tighter timings.

10. Did you use stock cooler or something better?
[Posted by: Sparky | Date: 04/06/05]
On the 2600+ review they used a stock cooler and so did I when I put together one using the 2800+. However the chipset heatsink on the DFI mainboard gets bloody hot at a 300Mhz FSB so its probably a good idea to get a bigger heatsink for that. And thats what I intend to do for mine now that summer is here.

12. Where's the E-stepping 3300 with the 10x multi? That's what I want to know...
[Posted by: coop | Date: 04/07/05]
The best overclocking options are with the lower mutiplier as the chipset easily overclocks 50% but its unlikely the higher clocked Semprons will manage that without exotic cooling.

13. What I don't understand is why no other sites are reviewing these 754 Semprons. Are the other sites being paid off by Intel ie. running Intel ads therefore won't talk about anything this this good from AMD?
[Posted by: NoM$KissAss | Date: 04/09/05]
I was thinking the same thing!!!!

Maybe they are waiting for the new celeron based on the new Prescott with EMT64 and maybe 512KB cache to review them, and say the difference is not much and that intel based ones have EMT64 and AMD don’t. Such a way they can have some excuse to recommend Intel instead of AMD.

14. So what cpu cooler did you use and how hot did the cpu get when overclocked to 2.7ghz? Would you recommend the Thermaltake Venus 12 for overclocking this cpu?

15. Some comments:
Data compression, WinRAR 3.42, KB/s - Irrelevant CPU bench/graph !!!
It can be treated as a real life memory subsystem benchmark instead !
Same further!

>And here is one more very curious result. WinRAR is an application that is very sensitive to the memory subsystem performance<

>according to the results obtained in WinRAR, which is very sensitive to any changes in the system architecture<

WinRAR´s built_in benchmark & hardware test" is NOT a Data Compression Bench :

16. So when will the RevE3 be available to buy in stores, cause i havent been able to find any online?

17. hi,
may it be, that the only markable difference between the 3100+ with D0 stepping and the 3100+ with E3 stepping is the SSE3 capability of the 3100+ with E3 stepping?
thx for help

19. Bought a 3100+ E6 Sempy based on this review and some other homework - I am not disappointed! Can get to 295mhz x 9 but can't quite manage the 298 that was achieved here - can boot into Windows on 300mhz+ and strangely it is stable with Prime95, SiSoft Sandra and other burn-ins but crashes on 3DMark03! Not sure why. I am not using Cool'n'Quiet. I had a similar finding with 3DMark when I used an Asrock K8Upgrade (where I could not get stable above 260mhz!). Would also agree that the nF3 chipset gets hot and I put a passive Zalman heatsink on it but, although it gets very hot, others say the stock heatsink is OK.

Only one downside, I am not sure that there is a big benefit of the 3100+ over the 2600+ or 2800+ looking around, they seem to OC like stink! 330mhz x 8 or more is not uncommon and who needs C'n'Q when these Semprons already run very cool and quiet fans are not expensive.

20. just something to see if a good answer can come outt this, i bought this A64 3300+ back in Jan 2005 when it first came out, i downloaded CPU-Z an it was telling me this was a Paris Core, but i deleted the cpu-z i downloaded in jan an now i have the new one an it telling me this is a NewCastle Core ?? one thing im trying to understand is how if this A64 3300+ is a Sempron, how do they have 2.4 GHz ?
