1. When AMD came out with the K6 to replace the K5 they said they were gunning for 30% of the market. They keep saying in a couple years they'll have 1/3 of the market. K7, K8, yawn.

They make great chips, but for whatever reason they've failed to really sell them.

It could also be that they sell all their chips, but have a hard time increasing production volume, but now they will soon be opening a new factory (:
