1. Aside from the obvious profit margins, what reason would Intel have for pushing this much memory in a portable PC?

Gaming? Nope, 2Gb is presently the most you need, and 95% of user are gaming on desktops.

Video editing? Again, most people reserve this task for more powerful desktops, you won't see video editors toiling away on a new render with their laptop.

Web browsing? LOL....256mb is enough for that.

So that leads me to conclude that Intel is simply pushing this spec to boost their profits and make it seem like end-users "need" this much memory. Which is a complete farce, IMHO.

So will Longhorn require 4Gb of memory to function quickly? I sure hope not, that will mean XP will last me another 5 years, that's all.
