Slight typo: the first paragraph shows "360GB" while it should read "320GB" (the rest of the review does correctly show 320GB).

Nice review.I was considering this network storage solution.I don't think you spoke about the printer networking featue.I like WD-HD's.The Tbase 10/100 is real slow when I go thru my router to excange pictures from one computer to another.I should wait for the Tbas10/100/1000 model of this device and buy new nic cards.I hate the idea of adding a switch however.Guess what?A pci card that would allow another controller to my Mobo might be a better solution.I could maintain my fast 7200rpm HD speeds in the same computer and add more storage at the same time, allbeit not actually networked at those speeds.

You are unable to make files read only. So it doesnt work if you have multiple people accessing it. Murphys law steps in...someone will delete or move something that should be deleted. Its either full access or no access to files.

I've read that the drive has a very, very limited number of printers that are supported and that they do not support the multi-function printers with their expanded capabilites, yet their marketing info leads one to believe otherwise. None of this was mentioned in the article.
This is a severe limitation.

I want to make use of this external drive for large files (video editing), but when i see that the nic interface is the bottleneck i will wait for the GIGAbit NIC version...

I was very disappointed you make no mention that there is NO known way to recover deleted data from this drive. In addition, it uses a proprietary file structure so if you take the standard 160 GB drive out of the case and connect it directly to your computer it will not be recognized. All of this was explained to me by WD Support. So why would I buy this drive when there are others that do it right!

I have a WD-Netcenter 320GB. Yep, all or none file access thru public or private folders. All of my WinXPSP2 machines access the WD fine. My WinXPSP1 machine intermittantly cant access the private folders. WD support was absolutely no help -- said they would leave the case open and if *I* solved the problem, to let them know. Unbelievable. I attached a WD USB drive, it wasnt recognized. I attached a no-name thumb drive, and it was accessible. Havent attached a printer yet, but also disappointed to find that printer support is very limited. False advertisement.

I suppose this device has features, possibly even unattended backup, but all the reviewer was interested in was "how fast."

I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY CONFLICTS WITH WINDOWS XP'S SHARED DOCS FOLDER AND THE NETCENTER SHARED FOLDER(S)

THANKS
