Loved the nature of that Extremetech article and wish all tests were more like it. I think in any game you can watch framerates drop, the magic questions are how often and how long, thus showing the average amount of time spent below a "playable" rate is far more telling than an overall average rate where you have those sky high peaks contributing the average.

A64's do notoriously well in the area of maintaining rates, but the single cores suffered as other processes took cpu time. Now that A64's have dual cores, the problem is resolved and with a good boost to anything multithreaded as well.

Would be nice to see more tests with % of time below X framerates too.

:)

Any reason not to include halflife 2 in the tests?

HL2 is depending alot on the CPU, so that might be why you didnt wanted to include it =)

How could you forget the Pentium M ?

Without this your whole artical is worth nothing !!

It seems that the future belongs to multi-core CPUs and other parallel technologies like PhysX.

Serious Sam II tends to have all sorts of problems when running with dual cores/CPU(sound stuttering,random crashes).As did the original.
Genreally you have to set the affinity to use only 1 cpu for the game. I was curious if this reviewer had received some sort of patch or fix to get the game to run properly running dual cores(AMD).

E6 = toledo, always. check the OPN on the heatspreader to tell us if it's a true manchester, or a half cache toledo for the 4600+ and 4200+ X2's.

BV = manchester (E4)
CD = toledo (E6)

:D

I think this only proves that most CPU's can make a 7800GT see it's top performance.
But in my opinion this should have been tested with the best available: 2x7800GTX (512MB ?).

How can you claim that it's not a "smart move to go for an Intel processor if you are a Battlefield 2 fan"? Even the Pentium 4 520 manages almost 200 fps!

Clearly this game is not CPU limited at all at the medum setting. I do wonder about the higher settigns though.

I recently saw a different article about CPU vs. CPU in modern games just like this one, but instead of noticing the different like in here there was nothing different apparently in any benchmarks in any game regarding speed in CPU which i thought would be akward. I think the article is from AMD ZONE, how weird?

I would have liked to have seen an overclocked Sempron running at, say, 2.5GHz and an overclocked Pentium M as well. Maybe you can do this for a future CPU comparison (or just add a section to this wonderful review).

Like another person has said - there are major problems running serious sam 2 with a dual core PC. In fact the only temporary solution is to disable one of the cores whilst running the game.

see here
http://forums.seriouszone.com/showthread.php?t=44791

given this, just how did you do your testing with a dual core athlon?
