I've got 2 x Kingston DDR2 533Mhz 512Mb and 2 x 512 DDR2 Kingston HyperX 750Mhz mem. I honestly have not seen an improvement when I put the HyperX mem in. I've run 3dMark06 and 05 and my scores come up the approx same as when I had just had the 2 x 512mb ddr2 533. Ghost Recon Adv Warfare runs the same with the 1GB of RAM. Min requires for the game is 1GB.
I can't see the benifit.

I had 1 GB of ram and played fear combat with everything on including softshadows ;) the problem was shuttering when the room changed or heavy fire situations ... with 2 GB of ram this is completely eliminated ! it runs smooth and IT'S VERY CLEAR it doesn't load from hdd ... a lot ...

I have a Athlon64 3700, Nvidia 7900GT, 1gb Ram. I play Battlefield 2 on high settings, it runs really smooth 80% of the time but every now and then especially when travelling fast into new areas theres a bit of lag and stutter. Is this likley to be due to the fact im running out of ram or the speed the ram is working? I'd like to get it sorted out and was wondering wether to replace my 2x512Mb sticks with 2x1Gb sticks or just get one faster 1Gb stick? Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give.

Very good summary for those confused whether to spend that bit of $$ for 2GB RAM for everyday mainstream use.

Why didn't you run the 512mb modules at 2-2-2-5 timings?

2 GB works better, but they are both good enough witout being fussy. For $74, why not add another 1GB? Also, for $97 why not add 250 GB of USB hard drive. It will take a lot for me to want to switch over to doal core and Vista. My computer is awesome and I have become a geek. I say the next step should be a 40 core processor. Why stop at dual core? Seriously, I am very pleased with the Pentium 4, all that storage, and all that RAM.

i think the best thing to do today is to stick with a high speed P4 and just add a nice big HD and 2 gigs+ of ram... windows vista = need more power PC... do we really need vista? computers have always and will always be slow because intel and microsoft dont want us to be happy with what we have.

This answer is a way-little too over the top for what I needed. But, I still found my answer within the parameters of technical jargon and such...and now I have new questions...learning is great! Back to my studies...in college at 50 ! (years old that is!!)...have a great weekend!
