Boner,
I couldn't agree more. I listen to music and watch TV on my computer, and I can't stand noise from the computer. A lot of people do these days, and event those that don't still play games with sounds that are very important and could do without ambient sound interfering with it.
It's ironic that these days were sound matters more because more is done on computers, they are very noisy. When sound was not particularly important, they were quiet.
VIA sells a line of processors that require no active cooling, but they very slow, roughly the same speed as my Pentium III 550 that also does not require a fan. Slot 1 Coppermines are also good at this, if they have huge heatsinks. They have good performance, much better than the VIAs, are cheap, and very quiet. I use them a lot.
