While I'm in agreement with the others, that would have liked to see some overclocking comparisons, the article made me aware that the Opteron 100 series is socket 939 compatible. I had assumed that all the Opteron's were socket 940, only.
Before reading your article, I thought that if I wanted a 2 x 1 MB cache CPU, I would have to go with the 4400 x2. When you compare the price of the 4400 x2 at $499 USD (using www.TigerDirect.com), you'll see that you can get an Opteron 165 for $354 USD.
Now, I'll have to do some research to find out the major differences between the Opteron 100 series and the Athlon 64 x2 series. For example, what's the big differences between the Opteron 175 (2.2 GHz, 2 x 1 MB cache) versus the Athlon 64 x2 (2.2 GHz, 2 x 1 MB cache). Why is the Opteron 175 $50 more?
