Overall a good review, however it lacks power consumption benchmarks.

Why not benchmark after overclocking to see how it can go?

I see they list this processor as a Toledo, but newegg has it up listed as a Denmark? Did they change the core or is that just a codename or something? Still have the same overclocking headroom?

Since this is an opteron. would it require a special motherboard as opposed to an athlon 64 x2 ? IS there a significant cost difference between an x2 board and a board for this one.

While I'm in agreement with the others, that would have liked to see some overclocking comparisons, the article made me aware that the Opteron 100 series is socket 939 compatible. I had assumed that all the Opteron's were socket 940, only.

Before reading your article, I thought that if I wanted a 2 x 1 MB cache CPU, I would have to go with the 4400 x2. When you compare the price of the 4400 x2 at $499 USD (using www.TigerDirect.com), you'll see that you can get an Opteron 165 for $354 USD.

Now, I'll have to do some research to find out the major differences between the Opteron 100 series and the Athlon 64 x2 series. For example, what's the big differences between the Opteron 175 (2.2 GHz, 2 x 1 MB cache) versus the Athlon 64 x2 (2.2 GHz, 2 x 1 MB cache). Why is the Opteron 175 $50 more?

This article helped me in becoming a believer in purchasing my Opteron 165.
The article is paraphrased to easily understandable sentences and the use of technology terminology is also simple to comprehend.

Awesome review. I was considering upgrading to a X2 4400+ b/c of 1Mb cache but they are much harder to find now and very expensive. If I can get it to 2.5 thats more than enough for approx FX performance @ a much cheaper price! It also makes me feel better having purchased a high end 939 board (A8N-SLI Premium running a 3000+ single core), I can actually use it!
