1. By the time Conroe, aka Cockroach shows, AMD will have released faster, cheaper CPUs so Intel has a long row to hoe.

2. I'm working in the engineering field and in the past Xbit labs provided MATLAB and Mathematica benchmarks. This was very useful as a basis for large purchasing orders. Is there a chance we see those applications in a CPU benchmark at Xbit labs again?

I have received your remark. These tests will return to our reviews after a while

3. Verry nice objective review.
Is there any chance you'd be willing to review a pentium D805 (retail price 135$)

4. what about multi-thread tests for comparing dual core or am i missing some point?

5. This is a great review (as always), I am sure that many readers will find these reviews of mainstream parts a lot more helpful.

I noticed a minor naming error in the graphs, one of the benchmarked CPUs, the AMD64 X2 3800, appears to be "AMD64 3800+" on all of the performance graphs, it might be a little misleading at first glance. However the comments following them and the testbed and methods list do confirm that it is the dual core version.

Thank you! Graphs was corrected

6. Good review, will be interesting to include overclocked X2 3800+ results for comparision

7. This is a tired old analysis...having already been done by many other techie web sites. Boring !! No surprises here. Waiting for Intel's Conroe !!

8. I would also like to see the X2 3800+ overclocked instead of a FX-60 in this test and the cheaper Pentium D805, this is the cheapest dual core processor in the market.

9. Netburst is 5 years old, a dinosaur. The die shrink to 65nm demonstrates Intel's technical prowess on a processor that won't be that popular except for its price.

This article was written about a week too early - should have included the 805. Dual core performance for a Celeron price....

10. Yes, intel will soon be killed off by amd

11. Intel is a son of a b**ch

12. I would also be curious to see results for the D805. Also, how do the D920/D930 compare to the D820/D830?

13. How much market share will Intel lose to AMD because of these inferior processors?

15. Athlon 64 X2 3800+ has a tremendous performance compared to single cores in Deep Fritz 8 FritzMark. How about Intel dual-cores? People don't realize that chess programs seem to utilize 100% of cpu power and try to fry the cpu like nothing else!

16. Hi,

I have a question about the overclocking - I have the Pentium D930 and am looking forward to overclock it following your review as soon as the MB comes along (ASUS P5WD2-E Premium Intel 975X).

But what I want to know is the memory clock - I bought the Corsair CM2X1024A-6400 DDR2 PC800 (2x1GB Dual Channel) - the standard clock is CL5 5-5-5-12 and 800 MHz.

Does the change in the speed of FSB due to the overclocking of the CPU manages to change the memory speed as well? I heard of the 1:1 factor. As you propose, the absolutely stable speed for the CPU is Core speed: 4006.9 MHz, Multiplier: x 15.0, FSB: 267.1. MHz, Bus speed: 1068.5 MHz and vCore: 1.488 V. What is related to the memory speed and how (and where) should the memory speed be manualy changed and/or the voltage increased?

Thank you very much for your help.

17. Am I the only one realizing that most of these Intel CPUs can be overclocked, and that in the hands of an overclocker, represent an excellent value? No, it's not an FX60 for games, but for crying out loud, it costs five times less! For what it costs it gives impressive performance when overclocked. That was my only gripe with the review. I'm not an Intel fan, but the article just screamed AMD WINS all over even when the Intel processor was only a few percent behind or tied.

18. yes but you forgot to mention that the presler 930 is $200 and the fx-60 is $1000. I'd say the 930 is a btter deal any day, but i'm sure an amd buff would never admit that!

19. Very well done.... Thanks-

20. I would rather have a PD 930 for $195 than an X2 3800+ for $295. And to those of you that are all like "Intel sucks!", have you always been on AMD's side?
