How much graphics memory do these cards hold? 256 or 512MB? Particularly interested in 7600gs and 7800gs.

What is the test setup when you measure 41.6W power consumption of the Radeon X1600 XT ?

Very good article. I think as time goes on testing like this will become more important. We all know the performance of new cards will be great, but then comes factors like noise, heat, power requirements, case size requirements, etc. I'm in the market for a new GPU myself, so its great to have analyses like these that test more than simply benchmarks.

Hi and thanks for a really good article!

I'm looking for a new GPU for my SFF machine (with a 220W PSU) and I got really interested in 7600 GS because of its low power consumption.

I have been able to run a Ati Radeon 9800 SE AIW (approx. 48 W according to an earlier article here on the site) in the machine without any problems so is my assumption correct that a 7600 GS or even a 7600 GT would work in the machine?

Cheers,
Fredrik

Hi again!

I thougt I would give you an update on my question about the 220 W PSU and an 7600 GS card.

Yesterday I bought an Gigabyte GV-N76G256D-RH, see:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/VGA/Products_Overview. aspx?ProductID=2334

It only occupies 1 single AGP-slot (perfect for SFF) so I can still use my PCI-slot next to the AGP-slot.

Before inserting the card I used a power meter which told me that the computer was using 130 W at peak. After inserting the graphics card the meter showed between 100 W and 160 W.

I tried to play Battlefield 2, Need for speed and Far Cry at high resolution (1024x768 and 1280x1024) and at 3D-peak it showed 190 W and the graphics was really good with high frame rate.

Conclusion: The Gigabyte card works really good in SFF computers with Low watt PSUs like mine (220 W).

/Fredrik :-)
