This is one of the best high-end video card comparisons I have seen in a long time.

It helps me to understand the performance at "equal" image quality settings for both my X1900 and 7950 cards, which are ATI's default "Typical" settings and Nvidia's "High Quality" Image settings respectively. Thank you Xbitlabs for bringing that to light while also including the highest image quality settings such as 6X, 8X, 16X FSAA and ATI's HQ AF.

However, there was not any mention of Transparency or Adaptive AA. I am wondering if you deliberately chose to omit this feature from this article.

On the second page, it shows ATI's 16X HQ AF while also showing HQ AF again on the next (third) page. Wasn't the second page intended to show ATI's *typical* Quality 16X AF in the 3DMark06 AF screenshots? Also, aren't the screenshots from 3DMark06 instead of 3DMark03?

Thanks a million!!!

wonderfully done article.
would be better if it also included the 7900GTX for comparisons, as it works without the few unironed SLi bugs.

Another great X-Bit article.

Most other tech sites are now targeting a less informed audience, are full of self serving/ad hominem verbage or are just dishing up the same rehashed press releases and generic benches as everyone else (& that criticism includes such popular sites as [H], Guru3d and Anands ... Tom's of course lost it big time ages ago.)

I still check X-Bit daily.

Thanks for keeping your editorial standards high, and your articles interesting, detailed and accurate.

Thank you so much for this Review. I hope, in future you will always use the High Quality driver setting for Nvidia Cards!

BTW: In OpenGL Games, the High Quality driver setting DOES NOT automatically disable filtering tricks!: http://www.3dcenter.org/artikel/neue_filtertricks/

Thank you for a wonderful review. Your previous review of the X1950XTX weighed heavily on my decision to purchase the card. This review further reinforces my decision, in my mind.

Suberb job, I have to give you guys praises for the most informative articles I can find. Thank you so much.

Well first of all I saw the EVGA 7950 available for 499 bucks. So as far as IM concerned both these cards are on = levels.

Secondly...

I have my Gx2 overclocked to 615/1600 where stock speeds are 500/1200. In overclocked form this card would beat the pants off of that Radeon. Now true its not overclocked stock, but if you would do overclocked test results for both cards you would see there is probably 3x as much play in clocks for the GX2 then there are for the radeon.

Single chip wise ATI has the fastest card out there. However Single slot card wise Nvida OWNZ ATI specially when overclocked.

Cheapest available x1950XTX w/ 2000 mhz memory (470 dollars)

Not such a big difference as the Xbit people would have you believe.

great review, and very instructive for who wants to by high-end configuration. More articles with FSAA, HDR, Aniso activated to see what we could have (performance).

4:3 ratio benchmarking is so 1999. Time for Xbit to lead the pack and start performing wide screen benchmarking. 13x7, 14x9, 16x10, that's the future!

Overall, great review, although its nothing I havne't already seen. If you need ideas, www.widescreengaming.com is where you want to be looking. Keep up the great work.

ps. Atleast do _AN_ article on Widescreen benchmarks. Try it, you won't go back ,hahha.

In the table "ATI Radeon X1950 XTX vs. Nvidia GeForce 7950 GX2 FSAA Quality Comparison

Half-Life 2: Episode One "

some wire net (extending to the back of the screen) seems to be missing on the ATI screenshots. Is it the deficiency of the ATI card or some other effect (different angle)?

I WHOLE-heartedly agree with "Widescreen Support?" Widescreen is where its at.. when will you start incorporating these other ratios? Seems to me most serious gamers dont bother with 4:3... with such a thorough review for obviously serious/well informed gamers, why should you keep 4:3?
