I have a WL-500G Premium running DD-WRT ( http://www.dd-wrt.com ). I love it. I am using the VPN version of the firmware, so I can run an OpenVPN server on my router, and link it up to a WRT54G I have at another location running DD-WRT with an OpenVPN client.

Btw, I believe you can make use of the routers USB ports with DD-WRT. See this page on their wiki: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/USB

P.S I don't think the orange light is really a bad point. I think it looks rather nice in the dark. :-)

I guess I was wrong. Thanks for the tip...I'll look into it.

Does the ftp part work with DD-WRT?
(when you connect a HDD to it?)

No, unfortunatley there no versions with FTP servers at the moment.

Ah! So that what it was! I recalled incorrectly! (FTP not USB!)

Well, I don't mind if it doesn't have FTP functions with DD-WRT. I just want something that can handle a fair amount of concurrent connections (as I noticed it has 32MB and 266Mhz Broadcom chip...which should offer more than enough for most home users with P2P.)

You can get this router here in Australia, so I might as well bag one and load DD-WRT on it. :)

Yeah, it should work great. :) Also, be sure to look at this page: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Router_Slowdown

My old WRT 54G would slow to a crawl when using bittorrent. After I put DD WRT on it, and configured a couple of settings as they recommend on that page it worked great. Also used those settings for my WL-500G P.

Only bad thing I notice with the DD WRT firmware is the power light does not turn on for some reason. All the other LEDs work, so you can see when it is on, a bit odd though. :)

Another Premium Priced Asus product that does NOT deliver on the promises made.

As long as people buy crap at Pemium Prices there is no incentive for Asus to deliver quality products. They'll continue to pump crap out the door to gullible consumers.
