An excellent review of innovative next generation video solution. I look forward to the tandem 8800 GTX review (motherboards permitting), with the updated Forceware drivers. Would it be possible to notify me when this happens?. Thanx

I will agree with some people above that the cpu used with 8800 gtx and even the xfire X1950s is too slow especially for the high aa settings, where you can clearly see a bottleneck apearing with the cpu.

I personally bought the 8800 gtx and shortly upgraded to an Intel C2D E6600 with which the card really shines.

Yep cool review. Even though the 8800gtx was lagging in some tests one has to remember that was against two or four cards in sli.
I would like to see the same again with 2x8800gtx.

I also experience graphical artifacts using 97.02 drivers and in oblivion scenes outside, the trees swaying in the wind have a funny overlapping in between the swaying back and forth.

A test using a core 2 duo with a nvidia reference board (full x16) would have been nice to see.

All in all this card has delivered breath taking graphics and great frame rates for me.

Always a great read - could you please test everquest2 once in a while?
Neither NVidia nor soe (the everquest developer) so far managed to detemine just why the 8800gtx performs so horribly with this particular game.
Thanks a lot!

Yes the card does not show it's full potential because of CPU limitation. But maybe when games start using the GPU for physics then the card will be 110% utilized... better safe than sorry

Hey guys,

This is a kick ass review, thanks a lot for that.

I am thinking about getting this card, however I am not sure if that would be a smart move, my pc has the following specs:

- Intel Pentium 4, 3.2 GHZ Prescott
- 2 MB DDR Ram PC400
- Intel 915 GAV board
- Creative Audigy 2 ZS soundcard
- Nvidia GeForce 6200 TurboCache 128 MB

I am not sure if the 8800 GTX would perform as it should on my pc since my specs are dated, and I am honestly cannot afford an upgrade now because it would be pointless, the technologies in my PC are discontinued and hence It won't be an upgrade, I would have to buy a new machine.

Should I go for 7900 GTX instead? or would 8800 GTX be ok?

Cheers.
