I can't do more than agree on this.
Even though I prefer Intel over AMD, I find AMD doing the best job on motherboard compatibility. The vast majority of the motherboards for AMD's solution don't have chipsets from AMD nor the motherboard manufacturer, and AMD still manage to keep the CPUs compatibility with a large number of older motherboards.

I can't see how Intel can make such changes without thinking about current Intel system owners. I would feel enormous guilt if I was in charge at Intel. I would do everything I could to change this strategy.

On the other hand, once I buy a new computer, I will most likely keep the same motherboard and CPU through-out its lifetime. This has been the case for all my systems. My current system has a nice balance between the CPU and GPU, and I don't think I'll ever have to add more memory either (2GB).
