No Company of Heroes game benchmarks. :( I guess they can't all have my favourite multithreaded game. :(

The Overclocking headroom of this CPU reminds me of the first Celeron CPU. Very cheap to purchase but overclocks far behind anything out there. If u recall The first Celeron 266mhz OC 400mhz, making the premium Pentium II 400mhz look so over price.

"Performance of the Core 2 Duo E4300 isn't that impressive as that of the senior models of the series. Although it differs by only 3-5% from the Core 2 Duo E6300, the new CPU is slower than the Pentium D 945 and Athlon 64 X2 4200+, which cost about the same money, in some benchmarks. But there are few such benchmarks and the new CPU is far more economical than any of its opponents. "

What drugs do you guys take??? I want some, your own benchmark data shows E4300 at stock as fast or faster (in most cases) than a 4200+ ....

This has been overclocked at 100%+++ over at FanBoyReview...

Nice overclocking results, but I agree with Jack, your conclusion does not match your data!

The E4300 is, on the whole, slightly faster than both the PD 945 and X2 4200+.

dm> This was not a stable overclock, just a screen shot, even if they reached a rather high frequency :). BTW i think it's the temperature that limits the OC in air cooling , with a good w/c u could definitely go higher than that.

Error on page 3:

First we wanted to see what we could get without increasing the core voltage, which was 1.325V by default. Under such conditions, our Core 2 Duo E4300 could work at 2.97MHz - the FSB frequency had been increased to 330MHz.

It is 2.97GHz you wanted here...

And forever I've been calling my E6300 an "Allendale." Geez.

People looked at me funny more than normal.

But I actually have a Conroe. How sweet it is.

and how revealing....an 800 Mhz FSB really doesn't slow this baby down too much.

Where can I find one mobo that OC to those levels but without paying so much?
(The mobo in the review costs 200€ in my country I was thinking in one that would cost 100€).

It would be very usefull to test the overclockability of this processor with entry-level motherboards (for example, boards with i945g chipset, that usually do around 300FSB max).

You should overlock the e6300 too to get a real conclusion.

Great article, loved the charts. If all data its true, we get a very nice idea of the performance that we would get with a E4300 CPU.

Keep up the good work.

I'd like to see what type of results I'd get with a Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 or DS3... Probably pretty similar, if the RAM is at least DDR2 800...

Oh well, we'll find out soon enough. As soon as this thing hits newegg, I'm buying and building my new system. I may get back to you on my overclocking results...

When you state that the E4300 differs visually from a E6300, you need to consider, that Intel also sells E6300/E6400 CPUs in the new L2 stepping starting in January, which shouldnt differ in the arrangement of elements on the bottom of the CPU.

Other than that, good review. As some other user stated, power consumption figures are missing.
