1. Sorry but I don't see anything "SUPER" about these coolers other than a Super high price. None of these so called Super Coolers are as good as a basic Thermalright XP-90 or 90C at a much lower price point.

Thanks I'll pass. These things must be for newbies without a clue.

Well maybe not for newbies but unless the Intel (or AMD) boxed cooler is included as a base reference line how are we actually to know how these expensive behemoths really perform? At what point do you just spend your money a faster CPU?
I have asked in the past and I would like to asks again of the authors to PLEASE include the stock cooler statistics for a thermal and acoustic base line.

2. A cooler which does not cool better than current offerings, which are even more quiet? What a bargain for 90$! A TT Sonic Tower (still a very strong performer) can be had for under 30€...

3. For Bornfree:

Your arrogantly simplistic view that those who choose these styles of heatsink are newbies is not at all well founded..

Don't forget to remove your CPU cooler before shipping your computer anywhere, otherwise you just might regret it.. the Zalman9500 is actually the best compromise for those who ship their computer around or frequently attend LAN parties. Go figure.... there is some Intel and AMD documentation that might help you... Also, all of these radial-fin designs, (especially the lower-profile CNPS 9500 and 9700) when correctly oriented front-rear and in conjunction with the rear case-fan, very efficiently push cooling air past the memory AND the mosfet heatsinks on a typical ATX MB too, especially high-performance memory with top heat-sink finning... A big extra bonus with this style of heatsink.

And your favorite heatsink actually does not match up at all well with any of those in this review. An old-gen heatsink that is just a little better than the old Zalman CNPS7700. Did you spend some time polishing the base before installation ?

7. I bought a 9700 from Newegg for under 50.US (Black Friday) including shipping based on reviews/specs from xbit and frostytech. I'll let you know how this cooler works in a Antec P160w when a good DDR3 mobo comes out.

To me,the ASUS cooler is just a less efficient copy of the Zalman with a much higher price.

9. I think the reason that the fan is smaller is to make it less noisy. With the fan being close to the sides I think the friction of the air would make it noisy. Something like that. I read something on it some time ago.

10. Oh, and this has got to be the sexiest CPU cooler I've ever seen. I liked it so much that I just bought one a week ago.

11. The article was great in steering me toward making a decision about a CPU Cooler. Although, the writer doesn't seem too interested in AMD products. I've had a dual-core FX-60 for over a year in a 939 Socket... but, there will always be dedicated Intel buyers, as well as, AMD buyers. Aside from the bias, I enjoyed the article.
