1. Once again Asus proves that they are incompetent and rushing half-baked crap out the door.

Does this really come as a surprise to anyone with a clue? Asus has been shipping one POS after another for going on three years now. Funny that on the Asus website they quote glowing reviews but never the reviews that tell you their products are not ready to be released to the public because they have so many defects that will never be corrected.

Until consumers stop buying this crap, Asus and others will continue to ship this CRAP and charge exorbitant prices to naive, gullible fanboys.

PC enthusiasts need to wake up or forever be saddled with inferior products not worth buying.

2. I dont know if I would call $300 "unbelievably high price".. but maybe ive always percived a highend/enthusiast mobo to be in this end of the price..

It should say $400US as the price, they keep saying over $300 but it appears to be $399US everywhere I look.

Top end boards (non-workstation) usually seem to be $250-300US at most. Never seen $400 except for SMP/workstation before.

3. Nice profit margin when it cost less than $50 to produce any of these boards.

4. I have the Striker Extreme with QX6700 quad core processor. I had difficult time in raising my FSB beyond 1200 Mhz. I have 2 gigs of Corsair XMS2-2048 9136 C5D memory which I could not increase speed much beyond 800 Mhz. Flashed to bios version 803 and could no longer post (LCD poster remained at CPU INIT). RMA'd my board to newegg and waiting for return. To say the least, i am extremely disappointed with this ASUS product. Has anyone performed extensive tests using this processor and memory combo? Even a stock speeds (and still at Bios 701), 1 out of 2 warm restarts resulted in failed boots with LCD poster message of DET DRAM. Had to hit reset button. Don't know what new board will bring. Does anyone have an Intel alternative to the 680i chipset. I am not use SLI.

After reading all the complaints about the 680i I might just have to wait even longer to get a hold of something that isn't full of bugs and issues (however my P4S8X 2.66 machine isn't getting any younger). I've been building systems since the 8088 and I'm seriously appalled at all the problems with these manufacturers releasing sub-par, high priced equipment. The 680i chipset in particular sounds like pure garbage - a true lottery with problems ranging problem sound issues to data corruption and BSODS. Sounds like I need to buy a ... Core2 based SLI Dell with a nice cushy warranty if I want something that runs without problems? ....

10. I am having a nightmare with the BIOS trying to set up a simple RAID 1.
Pressing F4 then F10, I just cannot enter the RAID utility.
I've a P6700 core duo, 2gb of Corsair RAM, with 2 new Hitatchi 250Gb SATA drives.
Anybody any thoughts? Over the years I've built 7 machines and never had any problems like this. The BIOS looks as though Noah designed it!

11. Unfortunately the only extreme component of this product is the price. Does not appear to offer particularly good value for money imo. A bit worried also about heat production as I am currently looking to replace an ASUS nForce 4 mainboard after setting FSB to 1066 for EE P4 extreme damaged it?

13. The Asus Striker Extreme has been a real disappointment, I have been unable to install 4 memory modules limiting the board to only 4 gig of ram. G.Skil notes the Asus problem and even Asus admits the problem if installing 4 memory chips but so far the Asus tech support has been non existent. As I was a sucker and bought two of these boards to build a se of twin quad core computer I am now stuck with about 500 bucks worth of non usable ram and absolutely no technical assistance from Asus.

I am at this point truly sorry I ever purchases an Asus board, and never would recommend these products to anyone.

Perhaps one who has a name in tech reviews or sells computer wear might get a bit of assistance from Asus, but for the common folks just forget it and find another company to buy a mother board from and I also am surprised Nivida has not done something.

Never again will I buy Asus!!

14. It would seem that the Striker for S775 has similar floors to the NF590SLi Chipset on the Crosshair which I was really disappointed with (however these ROG boards do look fantastic)

Think spending an extra £30 to £60 on a mobo would be better spent on a CPU upgrade!

15. Thanks for such a detailed review of the Asus Striker. makes me wonder - is everyone scared to say something bad about them?

every other review i read rates the board 4 stars while glossing over the bad points.

Thnx! for a honest review (it changed my mind)

16. In a few words: this "fascinating" board may be designed for gamers, but it's very hard to actually run any games. You have to spend most of your time fighting with the system. There are problems with BIOS, Memory, SLI and Sound. In legal terms, one would call this a defective product.

damn bang right on target i just told asus o why did i bought a mobo for games that could not handle anny games it just freezes like crasy got mine a few days ago

17. It's the first time I'm building my own PC and I was surprised how easy it was. I have no problem with Asus striker extreme, or to be honest no serious problems...yet :)

18. asus stricker extreme is the biggest piece of crap i have ever had the displeasure of owning.
[Posted by: agent submit | Date: 09/15/07]

19. Yeah, it's garbage, AND it kills memory due to incorrect voltage issues.

And yes, it's SLI-ready mem from Kingston and on the compatibility list. I used to use Albatron boards, but I guess they got out of the mobo business. I'd always heard good things about ASUS, and got the SE because it was supposed to be the best. I don't mind spending the money if it really performs and doesn't give me troubles, and this board has done just that.

I upgraded from a 3.0 P4, all the way to a Q6000 with top memory, and my new system is like a downgrade.

I HATE this board and regret buying it. Returning this one for the second time for something else - I don't care what. I'm tired of all of the issues with it, from the bad BIOS's on... this is a wreck.
