To add on to my previous reply, speed for the GDDR memory must increase as the Mircosoft DirectX software is getting more and more multi-threaded. Games in the future are predicted to be more realistic, thus with higher memory bandwidth due to higher memory speed is required to handle such demanding threads. This can be shown by the latest DX10 SM4 where the games are becoming more photo-realistic.
What puzzles me is that, if the memory speed increases to an unexected level, can heat be a problem in the future? Is there a way such that higher bandwidth can be obtained without large increase in memory speed though I knew that Hertz = bits/second? If there is no choice, the company needs to design a good and effective heatsink.
