1. Could we test some Promise and Adaptec RAID controllers as well please?

2. I would like to know how the KS series handled raid dropouts. That's why WD pushes their YS and RE2 models so hard for raid arrays, the fact they are enterprise, include TLER, and handle Errors better. Any Thoughts?

3. I would like to see in part 2 of the review is the hard drive's cache disabled and then redo the tests. The reason for this is it provides consistent data and more realistic results.

4. Why not review the latest Seagate Barracudda ES 400GB Raid edition disks rather than the older model? I understand the ES perpendicular recording disks are much fast due to the data being packed much more closely together. And they have been out for a while now.

5. Good Review but plz include resaults for comparisson without raid. That should be a baseline value in all tests.
Ir raid 0 does give a real increase in performance compared to a single disk many would switch. [Posted by: StorageDude | Date: 02/26/07]
6. In my experience with the Western Digital Caviar SE drive in a RAID 1 array, one of the drives would often fall out of the array because the error correction took too long. This made for a reliability mess in the systems we shipped. Since we changed to the Caviar RE, this issue has disappeared. At this livel, performance is a secondary issue to the reliability.

7. Nicely worded article. Great depth to your benchmarks and I like the way you approached your conclusions, well written. Thank you.

8. Just very deep

9. I agree to a call for testing a wider variety controllers, including built on motherboard RAID controllers from SIS, nvidia, ATI and intel. I'm concerned about firmware favouritism leaning more towards one manufacturer than another.

10. Also missing from the review is the stripe size for the various RAID arrays. It can have a great effect on performance, so it would be nice to know at what stripe size each of the arrays was created.

12. Do you have any test coming for a performance comparison re the number of hard drives used. ie Raid 0 with 2 hdd's, 3 hdd's & 4 hdd's?
For Access and Read/Write performances. Have you done any testing with WD4000YS & ST3400620NS. What is the difference between ST3400620NS & ST3400832NS [Posted by: Rosco | Date: 07/28/07]
13. yeas please i only want WD4000YS results and used disk firmware infos..
