This has gone on for too long. Sony just keeps shafting its own fanbase. European gamers are expected to humbly smile and ask for more when Sony not only delivers over a year late and doubles the price. Now we should also be happy to receive inferior hardware as well!

This has gone too far. I'm calling it quits, Sony.

It's good that you have competitors who actually care for their customers.

They will fail miserably, and people will move into Xbox360 instead.

For example here in Spain, an average salary is 1000€, but many people earn 700€. You can't sell a 600€ console with those figures.

How come everyone surprised? Since the 1st day launch in Japan, Sony said that they will remove the EE+GS processor inside all PS3 when their software simulator becomes mature.

yea lets just bend over and take it from Sony we (Euroland) get a PS3 with less hardware and we pay MORE than US ($280 more) and Japan ($340)

Definitely this goes to far. $ 280 more than the console in US. Please Sony tell me why is the same console more expensive here than in the US? I need only one good reason.

Definitely - i thought of buying a PS3 because i kinda liked Sony, but after seing what they did in 2006 with the batteries and now with the PS3 i don't give a f**k about them anymore...

The Emotion engine is used to make the PS3 play PS2 Games.
Actually the Emotion Engine is the Chip that makes the PS2 run in the first place.
The reason why they added this thing is Because the PS2 Is a MIPS Based Architecture ( Like the N64 ) and the PS3 is based on IBMs PowerPC architecture.
These two Architecture in the Computer Language is like Comparing Arabic with Chinese.
So They added the PS2 Emotion Engine in Hardware of the PS3 so it doesn't need Translating..
It's what you call a Hardware Emulator because there is a Chip Dedicated to specifically Process the old PS2 Data. The Cell proc doesn't need to work at all.
It doesn't make the PS3 faster on PS3 games.
It Means that to play PS2 games on the Euro PS3 you could have a slower performer because the main Proc ( Cell Processor ) Has to do the DEcoding or Translate PS2 Language so that the PS3 Hardware can Digest the Data.
Kinda like an Arabian CEO running a Company in Bejing with Chinese Workers.
There is something called a Language barrier and to make things work a Translator is Needed which also sucks Time and Effort in the work process.

As fror the Sony 3 I don't really know how Efficient the Cell Proc is in Coding and decoding old PS2 Data but since the Sony guys seem so Confident about their product...

The only Company in this Generation that played smart when it came to Backwards Compatibility is Nintendo.
They used Identical Harware that only runs Faster.
Microsoft Jumped from X86 architecture ( XBOX ) to PowerPC ( XBOX 360 ).
Hence some problems running XBOX games on Xbox 360.

Sony is Confident that Production cost will lower by leaving out the Emotion engine.
What I cannot Understand is that the Price is the same despite the removal of this piece of Hardware.

But this is probably what you call Overconfident ARROGANCE.
They are Confident that Europeans would sell their own Blood and Organs to get their System.
Heck if they only knew that they keep shooting themselves in the foot.

Don't Complain about the Price you Euro boys.
I live in Dutch Guyana where PS3 cost 1350 USD.

( Yeah as if I would sell an arm and a Leg to buy one )

i would just like to add that although we will be paying more and receiving less tech under the hood...sony have been very secretive about the hardware scaler!! now just a thought but do you think that they could be sneaking in a 'REAL' hardware scaler where the ee'gs chip used to be?

thanks that would actually make sense. so they are trying to sneak in a hardware scaler into the pal console without letting onto the fact that the ntsc version didnt actually have a proper scaler...nice if it is true!!

I was planning to get a PS3, as I generally quite like Sony products - never had the troubles with service and quality others have reported. But I'm UK based so that's an even higher price than the rest of Europe for a worse product than US / Japan.

I've now got a HTPC set up under the TV, so I could just buy a Blu-Ray drive for that, plus a Wii for gaming. I'm not buying a PS3 now just on the principle of it.

I live in the US, and I have all three systems(not bragging here, but just an honest opinion of the PS3). It didn't come with ANY HD cables, I can understand no HDMI cable, but shit, my 360 came with COMPONENT HD cables at least. Also the USB cable for charging the controller is only about 4 feet long, that is so lame! I like my PS3, I like my 360, but the WII is my favorite!!! If removing the emotion chip dropped the price about 200 dollars on the PS3 EVERYWHERE, I would say good riddance but that doesn't seem to be the case. I hope that the PS3 doesn't die like the Dreamcast, but time will tell. Things aren't looking good for them lately.....
