1. Hello! My name is Sasha and I am a long time reader of the xbitlabs.com. I write this email as a reply to Your asus a8js review. During the whole review You have pointed out how disapoint the performanse of radeon mobility x1700 is when working in power saving mode and how it scored very low in 3dmark under battery test. I think that this is your mistake. I have a mitac notebook with almost the same configuration (t7200, 2 x 1 GB 667 MHz, x1600, hitachi 7200 rpm hdd...) and i can achive exactly the same 3dmark score on battery as when the notebook is pluged in. The radeon mobility x1600 has 3 modes. Normal mode, midle and the low voltage mode. This is actualy an advantage. The low voltage mode is exactly what it is called "low voltage", when in this mode the gpu runs on only 125 MHz (or somewhere around that). Nvidia cards dont have a power saving mode that goes this low as i know. If you put the notebook on the midle mode, i believe that it will bring better performanse, and still keep the batery duration on pair with geforce 7400 in power saving.
