We actually won TWO Benchmarks - TWO !

Our AMD processors are the best - and all of our disenfranchised AMD lovers can claim, once again, superiority for the AMD CPUs.

We are the greatest - and you Intel haters made me $16 Million Richer last year.

Thanks, suckers.

Only problem is that Intel motherboards are more expensive than complete AMD system with 24" LCD monitor.

"The obtained results suggest that AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ should cost no more than $180, and Athlon 64 X2 4800+ and 4600+ - no more than $140, if they want to successfully compete with the new Intel CPUs."

Yeah... right, but loot at this :

Athlon 64 X2 4800+ --> ~$136
Athlon 64 X2 5000+ --> ~$166
Athlon 64 X2 5200+ --> ~$176
Athlon 64 X2 5600+ --> ~$189

"However, we doubt that a price cut like that will ever be possible."

AMD will do it 2 weeks before Intel...

What ?

"However, we doubt that a price cut like that will ever be possible."

Can you repeat this ?

"However, we doubt that a price cut like that will EVER be possible."

How much did you get paid by Intel ?!
This is so funny...

"Athlon 64 X2 4800+ and 4600+ should cost no more than $140."
"However, we DOUBT that a price cut like that will EVER be possible."

These prices are ALREADY beaten !
You can buy an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Retail and have a copy of Rainbow Six Vegas for $125.99 at clubit.

Did you have something to add ?

"However, we DOUBT that a price cut like that will EVER be POSSIBLE."

Yeah, never mind...

CPUZ is not known for its accuracy. e.g. For many months many reviews stated that the 6300 and 6400 were allendale cores because CPUZ said so, despite a quick read of Intel docs and other test programs (e.g. everest) correctly identified them as conroe cores.

Also, can the article please be corrected to take into account the current AMD prices?

With the free VMware server, some people (e.g. Folding @ Home distributed computing project) have noticed the lack of VT prevents running a 64bit guest OS on it. Even older S939 X2s (that don't have VT) still have a subset of VT (segmentation support) that permit it to do so.

For 99% of users though, lack of VT isn't (at least currently) an issue.

It was interesting to see a 64bit OS used for testing.

To the author of this article.

Since when the Intel Pentium D is better than any of the X2?!?!?!!?

X2 5200+ costs 219$ while the E6600 costs 313$.

MY WORDS from YOUR OWN WORDS:
As for the Athlon X2 performance, it proved surprisingly decent for solutions based on obsolete micro-architecture. Although these CPUs are slower than the Core 2 Duo, they offer better price-to-performance ratio than the Core 2 Duo and the Pentium D.

All I wanna know is if i should replace my E6400 with the new E6420. Is it a gain in preformance? Yes or No?

We are living in times when we need to be concerned about power consumption, and it is essential in that respect to include power measurements. Any review without this is lacking and does convey sense of laziness on the part of an author. Please don't take short cuts in future reviews please.

It's pretty strange to dismiss the 4400/4300 as cut-down and "poor" overclockers. Even before overclocking they are clearly the only two chips above the general trend on the price-performance chart. But THEN you complain that you can overclock this 2ghz chip to "only" 3.25 GHz stable.

Only? That's a a lot better on percentage than either of your other overclocks, and it the end it delivers 95 percent the performance of the faster chips (even at their best overclock) for less than half the price.

So - What are you smoking?
